Sun, sea and waterproof microphones

A scorching hot day today and everyone was both sweaty and also sticky with sun cream, then also covered in midge repellent as the wind dropped and the little blighters swarmed all over us. Tom won the prize for the most unusual activity of the day, recording the sound of the sea by dropping a waterproof microphone in it:

In case you're wondering why, it's because he's been taking time lapse photos of the tide going in and out, and wanted the sound of the sea to accompany the finished sequence, but what you get if you try and record the sea by just standing next to it is the sound of the wind whistling past your microphone, much better to stick a microphone in the sea.

Elsewhere everyone was sporting their favourite sun hat, from Alan's old and battered Indiana Jones style...

...to Alice's Tilley hat, which I seem to remember used to be sold with a guarantee along the lines that they could survive being eaten by an elephant. Not much chance of that in Rousay but you never know, maybe the seals would give it a go. Alice was hard at it recording in structure 5, Ipad, clipboard and Munsell book at the ready:

Julie meanwhile was still sporting her Swandro baseball cap whilst discussing structure 6 with the sadly hatless Jackie, who to be fair had just stood up so taken off her hard hat for a minute's breather:

Finally at the end of the day another drone photo of the lower end of the site with the tide well in:

Weather's meant to hold fine for most of the week but a bit more of a breeze which will hopefully keep the midges away.
