Another hot dry and sunny day with a refreshing breeze, back on site for week six and for a change the forecasts looks good for the week. The excavation of the furnace is now well under way, and the cracked and collapsed base slab has been reached:
Gerry and Rose are driving Talia in the finds hut to distraction by sending her all of the stone slabs forming the furnace walls in individually numbered trays, the cracked base is going to be put back together to get an accurate measurement as that can't be dome whilst it's in bits and slumping into the hole. Alan is still on hand with his running section the line for which is in the foreground on the photo.
Jack was kept busy shooting in all the many small finds, he managed to keep smiling even though trying to hold the prism steady enough to get a reading when there's a brisk breeze blowing through is not always easy.
Down at the lower levels the team were hard at it putting in a new section across the bit we uncovered last Thursday, after having carefully cleaned it all up for a photo.
Karla, on the left in the photo above, is having such a good time that's she's rearranged her flights so she can have an extra 2 weeks here, including helping with the backfilling - there's keen for you!
