Today's a day off, but preparations are well underway for our Viking camp and cookout and 'Meet the Specialists' event at the Rousay school. Unfortunately my invitation to Rollo must've got lost in the post but our very own Swandro Vikings will be there, although sadly they don't look quite as good as he does!
They do have a selection of axes, swords & shields though, and will be cooking up a very nice Viking lamb stew, along with bere bannocks from Argo's bakery in Stromness.
A big thank you to National Lottery players who via the Heritage Lottery Fund made a 'Sharing Heritage' grant available to provide our Living History reenactors at Swandro.
Yesterday was a busy day since we had Radio Orkney's Robbie Fraser on site interviewing members of the team for broadcast this morning:
You can see a video we made of Robbie interviewing Steve on our youtube channel
As if that wasn't excitement enough, last night Steve & Julie gave a very well attended lecture to the Orkney Archaeology Society who we would like to thank for kindly making all the arrangements and looking after us so well.
We do hope you'll come and see us if you're in Orkney, especially since if you don't we're all going to be eating an awful lot of lamb stew and bannocks for the next few days!
If you use social media we would appreciate it if you would use the Facebook & Twitter share buttons below to share this dig diary post - thank you!
